Prusament PLA Galaxy Red 1kg is a premium PLA filament manufactured by Prusa Research. It is a special edition of “Galaxy” PLA with an admixture of fine sparkling particles that create an eye-catching metallic, starry look in a deep red color. The filament is produced in-house under strictly controlled conditions and offers an exceptionally precise diameter of ±0,02 mm, which directly translates into reliable and consistent 3D printing.

Thanks to the combination of high-quality PLA polymer and carefully dosed metallic pigments, Galaxy Red is ideal for representative models, design prototypes, figurines, jewelry, board game miniatures, cosplay accessories and decorations, where appearance and surface finish are crucial.

The new Prusament spools additionally contain a writable NFC tag using OpenPrintTag technology, allowing a compatible printer or mobile app to automatically recognize the material type and its parameters – without the need for cloud connectivity.

Printing recommendations

Recommended settings (general for Prusament PLA):

• Nozzle temperature: approx. 200–220 °C (usually 215 °C for standard profiles)
• Bed temperature: approx. 50–60 °C
• Print speed: 40–60 mm/s (depending on printer type and detail)
• Cooling: 100 % after the first layers (standard for PLA)

For the Galaxy range it is recommended to use a nozzle ≥ 0,4 mm to minimize the risk of frequent clogging with very small nozzle diameters.

Build plate surface and adhesion

Prusament PLA Galaxy Red adheres well to:

• Smooth PEI sheet
• Textured powder-coated PEI sheet
• Other common PLA surfaces (glass with a suitable adhesive, etc.)

Always before printing:

• Thoroughly clean the print sheet (e.g. with isopropyl alcohol on PEI surfaces)
• Check the first layer height – proper “squish” is essential for good adhesion.

Post-processing and material properties

• Harder material – a standard property of PLA, models are stiff but more brittle than PETG or ASA
• More difficult to sand – sanding leads to rapid local heating and softening
• Bonds well with cyanoacrylate (CA) super glue, other common PLA glues are also possible
• Not suitable for long-term use in environments above approx. 50–60 °C (risk of deformation)

Warnings and storage

• Store in a dry place, ideally in a resealable bag with desiccant
• Protect from direct sunlight and high temperatures
• For longer-term storage we recommend occasionally drying the filament according to the manufacturer’s instructions
