Product description
PETG is a very tough material with good heat resistance. PETG is widely applicable, but it is especially suitable for printing mechanical parts. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. PETG has very low thermal expansion, so it does not warp on the print sheet, which makes large models easy to print. The parts on our printers are printed from PETG!
PETG is one of our favorite materials for 3D printing. It’s almost as easy to print as PLA, but unlike PLA it offers many superior mechanical properties. The G in PETG stands for glycol, which is added during manufacturing. Glycol modifies PET to make it less brittle, easier to print, and more transparent when printing semi‑transparent variants. PETG has low thermal expansion, so even when printing large models it rarely warps or detaches from the heated bed. PETG is also tough and slightly flexible, so under load it often only bends temporarily, preventing cracks.
Unlike PLA or ABS, PETG tends to string a bit, pulling thin strands of plastic during travel moves. You can mitigate this by increasing retraction and lowering temperature, but if you use our preset profiles in PrusaSlicer, we’ve already done this for you and stringing should be minimal. If you still encounter it, you can remove it by quickly passing a heat gun over the finished prints (a few seconds).
If you manage stringing, oozing, and strong filament adhesion, you’ll get very durable prints. Thanks to decent heat resistance, PETG prints are suitable for outdoor use as well.
