Prof. Lab PLA Carbon Fiber Red is a composite 3D filament based on PLA, enriched with fine carbon fibers. It combines the printing simplicity of classic PLA with significantly higher stiffness, strength, and dimensional stability, making it a great choice for both functional and aesthetically demanding prints.

Recommended printing parameters

Specific ranges may vary slightly depending on the printer, hotend, and cooling. We always recommend performing a short calibration print.

  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 195–215 °C (start e.g. at 205 °C and fine-tune according to the result)
  • Bed temperature: approx. 50–60 °C (with high-quality adhesion, even less is possible, depending on the bed type)
  • Printing speed: 40–70 mm/s (for detailed prints, preferably the lower limit)
  • Cooling fan: 60–100 % (depending on the model geometry)
  • Nozzle: for long-term composite printing, an abrasion-resistant nozzle (stainless steel, hardened steel, ruby, etc.) and a diameter of 0,4–0,6 mm are recommended.

Material properties

  • Base: PLA composite with carbon fibers
  • Strength and stiffness: higher than standard PLA, suitable for more stressed parts
  • Dimensional accuracy: very good, low shrinkage
  • Surface texture: matte, subtle "technical" look
  • Ease of printing: high – behaves similarly to PLA, less prone to deformation than PETG or ABS

Warning: Carbon fibers are abrasive – they can wear out a brass nozzle more quickly during long-term use. For intensive printing of composite filaments, we recommend switching to an abrasion-resistant nozzle.

Storage

  • Keep the filament dry, ideally in a sealable box or bag with a silica gel sachet.
  • Long-term exposure to air humidity can degrade print quality (micro-bubbles, rougher surface).
