Product description

Prof. Lab PETG Black 3 kg

Prof. Lab PETG is a high-quality technical filament that combines the strength and thermal resistance of ABS with the printing comfort of PLA. In its black version, it is ideal for functional prototypes, structural parts, covers, mounts, and outdoor applications where long-term mechanical and chemical resistance is required. This variant contains 3 kg of material – ideal for users who print frequently, large models, or small series of parts and want to minimize spool changes.

Main features

  • PETG material – a compromise between PLA and ABS Easy printing, minimal warping, but at the same time high toughness and resistance.
  • High strength and toughness Suitable for mechanically stressed parts, clips, holders, covers, fasteners.
  • Moisture and chemical resistance PETG has very good resistance to water, most acids, bases, alcohols, and oils – suitable for technical and industrial use.
  • Stability at elevated temperatures (approx. 70–80 °C) Compared to PLA, it holds its shape better in warmer environments (e.g., in a car, workshop, in the sun).
  • Excellent layer adhesion Strong bonding between layers increases the strength of the finished print and reduces the risk of cracking.
  • Precise filament diameter Typical diameter tolerance is ±0.03 mm, which guarantees stable material flow and predictable print results.
  • 3kg spools for long printing without spool changes Ideal for large models, farms, or serial production.

Recommended use

  • functional and technical parts (holders, covers, jigs, spare parts)
  • mechanically stressed components
  • parts exposed to moisture or weathering
  • electronics housings, boxes, organizers
  • smaller product series and prototype production

Recommended printing parameters

Specific settings may vary depending on the printer, cooling, and part geometry, but the following values have proven effective as a starting point:
  • Nozzle temperature: 230–250 °C
  • Bed temperature: 80–90 °C
  • Print speed: 30–70 mm/s (recommended 40–60 mm/s for high-quality surface)
  • Cooling: 0–70 % (often low to medium, full cooling usually only after the first few layers)
  • Build plate: glass, PEI, textured sheet, it is advisable to use an adhesive (glue, spray, tape)
Before the first print from a new spool, it is recommended to print a small test model and fine-tune the temperatures according to the specific printer.

Moisture and storage

PETG is a moderately hygroscopic material – it absorbs moisture from the air, which can lead to bubbles in the print, a matte surface, and reduced strength. Recommendation:
  • store in a sealable bag or box with silica gel
  • if moisture is suspected, dry (e.g., in a filament dryer or oven with precise regulation) at approx. 60–70 °C for 4–6 hours

Advantages of PETG compared to PLA and ABS

  • Compared to PLA: higher heat resistance, better toughness, higher chemical and moisture resistance
  • Compared to ABS: easier printing (less shrinkage, less prone to cracking), lower odor during printing
This makes Prof. Lab PETG Black 3 kg a great choice for home, hobby, and professional use.

Package contents

  • 1× filament spool Prof. Lab PETG Black – 3 kg (diameter 1,75 mm)
  • protective packaging (typically vacuum-packed with desiccant) to limit moisture during storage

Key features:

  • Large 3 kg spool for long prints without the need for frequent spool changes
  • Durable PETG filament suitable for functional and technical parts
  • Excellent chemical and moisture resistance – ideal for outdoor or industrial use
  • Higher thermal resistance than PLA (up to approx. 70–80 °C)
  • Good adhesion between layers and high toughness
  • Easier to print than ABS – less deformation and lower odor
  • Universal 1,75 mm diameter compatible with most FDM/FFF printers
  • Black design suitable for both aesthetic and technical parts
