Product description

Prof. Lab ASA Gray (gray) 1 kg – technical ASA filament for outdoor use

The filament Prof. Lab ASA Gray (gray) 1 kg is a technical material based on ASA (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate), developed for durable functional prints with a long service life, especially in demanding outdoor conditions. ASA is a popular alternative to ABS thanks to its better UV stability, less yellowing, and higher resistance to weathering.

The gray shade is universal for technical parts, prototypes, and final components – it masks dirt and minor surface imperfections well.

Main advantages of ASA material

  • Excellent resistance to UV radiation – prints do not fade or yellow as quickly as ABS
  • High heat resistance – suitable for parts exposed to higher temperatures (e.g. in a car, near windows, outdoors)
  • Resistance to weather conditions – rain, wind, temperature changes, and sunlight
  • Good impact toughness – suitable for mechanically stressed components
  • Possibility of post-processing – sanding, drilling, gluing, surface finishing similar to ABS

Recommended applications

The filament Prof. Lab ASA Gray is especially suitable for:

  • functional parts in the outdoor environment – covers, holders, mounts, garden accessories
  • automotive – sensor brackets, cable mounts, small plastic components in the interior and exterior
  • technical prototypes and final parts that must withstand sunlight and heat
  • sports and outdoor equipment, jigs, assembly aids

Printing recommendations

Specific values may vary depending on the type of printer, nozzle, and model geometry; in general, the following works well for ASA:

  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 245–265 °C
  • Bed temperature: approx. 90–110 °C
  • Cooling: low or off (0–30 %), for larger parts preferably without a fan
  • Print speed: approx. 40–70 mm/s depending on settings and model size
  • Enclosure / printer cover: recommended – reduces warping and layer cracking
  • For better bed adhesion, use a brim / raft or a suitable adhesive aid (glue stick, special spray, PEI, etc.).

Before printing, it is advisable to dry the filament or store it in a dry environment, as ASA can print worse at higher humidity (bubbles, poorer surface finish).

Properties of ASA material

  • Material type: ASA (acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate)
  • Filament diameter: 1,75 mm
  • High UV and weather resistance
  • Increased temperature resistance (compared to PLA/PETG)
  • Good dimensional stability and strength
  • Suitable for technical and functional parts

Safety and storage

Fumes are generated when printing ASA; it is recommended to print in a well-ventilated room or in a printer with an enclosure and filter. Store the filament in a dry place, ideally in a resealable bag with desiccant.

Summary

Prof. Lab ASA Gray (gray) 1 kg is a universal gray ASA filament suitable for users who need a reliable technical material for durable and aesthetic prints resistant to UV radiation, heat, and weathering. Thanks to the combination of mechanical strength, temperature resistance, and good printing properties, it is an ideal choice for functional prototypes and final parts for demanding environments.

Key features:

  • Technical ASA filament for demanding functional and outdoor parts
  • High resistance to UV radiation and weathering – suitable for outdoor use
  • Higher temperature resistance than PLA and PETG – usable in warmer environments
  • Neutral gray shade suitable for technical and design parts
  • Good dimensional stability and mechanical strength
  • Compatible with most FDM/FFF 3D printers for 1,75 mm filament
