Product description

GEMBIRD PETG black 1 kg – reliable filament for durable prints

Black PETG filament GEMBIRD is an ideal choice for users who need strong, tough and more heat-resistant parts, but at the same time want to maintain printing ease similar to PLA. Thanks to very low shrinkage, it is suitable for larger models and flat surfaces where warping may occur.

Why choose GEMBIRD PETG

  • Universal use – brackets, covers, technical components, functional prototypes, parts for indoor and outdoor use.
  • High strength and toughness – PETG is less brittle than PLA and better withstands impacts.
  • Lower shrinkage – dimensional stability, lower risk of deformation during printing.
  • Chemical resistance – PETG is more resistant to some chemicals than standard PLA.
  • More environmentally friendly choice – PETG is considered 100% recyclable.

The black color is suitable for technical parts, where lower visibility of details is not an issue, but you will appreciate the elegant appearance and hiding of minor print imperfections.

Recommended applications

GEMBIRD PETG black is suitable for:

  • Functional components – brackets, mounts, mechanical parts with lower mechanical load.
  • Parts for home and workshop – organizers, covers, jigs, assembly aids.
  • Outdoor components – elements exposed to higher temperatures than PLA can withstand (e.g. in a car, by a window, etc.).
  • Prototypes – quick validation of designs that need to withstand some stress.

Recommended print settings

Specific values may vary depending on the printer, nozzle and cooling, but the following typically works well for this filament:

  • Nozzle temperature: 230–250 °C (officially 220–260 °C)
  • Bed temperature: 70–80 °C
  • Print speed: typically 40–80 mm/s
  • Cooling: medium (lower than with PLA to maintain layer adhesion strength)
  • Build plate: glass, PEI, textured sheet, possibly with glue / adhesion aid

For best results, dry filament is recommended (PETG can absorb moisture over time), which can cause popping and worse surface quality.

Technical material parameters

  • Material: PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol)
  • Filament diameter: 1,75 ± 0,05 mm
  • Filament weight: 1 kg (on spool)
  • Recommended printing temperature (nozzle): 220–260 °C
  • Recommended bed temperature: approx. 70–80 °C
  • Density at 240 °C: 1,27 g/cm³
  • Melt flow index (MFI) at 200 °C / 5 kg: 20 g/10 min
  • Softening temperature at 0,455 MPa: 60–80 °C
  • Yield strength (5 mm/min): 50 MPa
  • Impact strength: 8,7 kJ/m²
  • Elongation at break: 120 %
  • Spool dimensions: diameter 200 mm × height 67 mm × hole 53 mm

Compatibility

GEMBIRD PETG filament is compatible with:

  • most FDM/FFF 3D printers supporting 1,75mm filament,
  • printers equipped with a nozzle capable of reaching approx. 240 °C and above,
  • closed and open print chambers (PETG generally does not require an enclosed space like ABS).

Summary of advantages

  • Easier to print than ABS, more durable than PLA
  • Very good mechanical properties and toughness
  • Low shrinkage – suitable for large models and precise parts
  • Chemical resistance and partial heat resistance
  • Reliable product from the renowned manufacturer GEMBIRD
