Product description

Prusament PVB Prusa Orange Transparent 500g (NFC)

Prusament PVB in the iconic color Prusa Orange Transparent is a top-tier design filament manufactured directly by Prusa Research. It combines high dimensional accuracy of ±0.03 mm, consistent color, and the possibility of chemical smoothing in isopropyl alcohol (IPA), which allows for achieving a glassy appearance of prints.

This filament is ideal for decorative and visual models such as vases, light fixtures, jewelry, design elements, film and cosplay props or various prototypes where appearance and translucency are important.

Main advantages of Prusament PVB Prusa Orange

  • Design material – intended primarily for visual and aesthetic models
  • Transparent / semi-transparent appearance in the Prusa Orange shade
  • Easy printing – settings similar to PLA, suitable even for motivated beginners
  • Possibility of chemical IPA smoothing – smooth, almost glass-like surface
  • Low warping – suitable even for larger models
  • Better mechanical properties than PLA – close to CPE/PETG
  • Top diameter tolerance of ±0.03 mm – stable extrusion and high-quality surface
  • Integrated NFC chip (OpenPrintTag) – transfer of material information directly to a compatible printer

Warning: PVB has low thermal resistance (approx. up to 60 °C) and worse interlayer adhesion than PLA. It is not suitable for functional, mechanically stressed, or temperature-exposed parts.

Recommended use

Prusament PVB Prusa Orange is the perfect choice for:

  • decorative models and vases (spiral vase mode)
  • shades and lamps, light objects
  • jewelry and fashion accessories
  • promotional and presentation models, design prototypes
  • cosplay / film props with the possibility of additional smoothing

Thanks to the combination of translucency and easy smoothing, a colored glass effect can be achieved.

Printing settings (reference values)

  • Material: PVB (polyvinyl butyral)
  • Filament diameter: 1.75 mm
  • Fill weight: 500 g
  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 215 ± 10 °C
  • Heatbed temperature: approx. 75 °C
  • Recommended print surface: smooth or satin PEI sheet
  • Recommendations for transparent prints:
    • larger nozzle diameter (e.g., 0.6 mm)
    • Spiral Vase mode for single-wall models
    • subsequent IPA smoothing for an almost glass-like appearance

Before printing, we recommend a perfectly clean bed surface and setting the PVB profile (or modified PLA) according to the printer manufacturer's recommendations.

Material properties

  • Low warping – suitable for larger models
  • Good adhesion to the bed
  • Hygroscopic material – PVB readily absorbs moisture, therefore dry storage or a drybox is recommended
  • Mechanical properties similar to CPE/PETG, but with worse layer adhesion than PLA
  • Low temperature resistance – do not expose to temperatures above approx. 60 °C (e.g., car in the sun)

With damp filament, stringing and deterioration of surface quality may occur. In such a case, drying the filament according to the manufacturer's recommendations (typically 4–6 hours at a medium temperature in a filament dryer) will help.

NFC (OpenPrintTag) – smart filament

This version is wound on a new spool with an NFC chip according to the OpenPrintTag standard:

  • direct reading of material data (type, color, recommended temperatures, remaining amount – depending on printer software)
  • works offline, without the need for a cloud or a locked ecosystem
  • compatible with official Prusa printers and other systems that support OpenPrintTag

The NFC tag facilitates correct material profile settings and limits errors caused by wrong filament selection.

Tips for best result

  • For maximum transparency, print thicker walls with few joints (ideally spiral vase).
  • Before chemical smoothing, thoroughly clean the model of dust and grease.
  • When working with IPA, follow all safety rules (ventilation, protective equipment, working away from open flames).
  • Store the filament in a sealable box with desiccant; dry if moisture is suspected.

Prusament PVB Prusa Orange Transparent 500g (NFC) is a great choice for everyone who wants to take the aesthetics of their 3D prints to the next level and utilize the possibilities of chemical smoothing and smart NFC tagging.

Key features:

  • Premium PVB filament manufactured in-house by Prusa Research with ±0.03 mm accuracy
  • Translucent orange shade Prusa Orange suitable for visually attractive and design models
  • Possibility of chemical smoothing in IPA for a smooth, almost glass-like surface
  • Easy printing with settings similar to PLA – suitable even for less experienced users
  • Low warping and very good adhesion to the bed, also suitable for larger prints
  • Better mechanical properties than PLA (close to CPE/PETG), but primarily for visual use
  • Integrated NFC chip (OpenPrintTag) for smart material recognition in compatible printers
  • Ideal for vases, lamps, jewelry, decorations, and presentation models with a colored glass effect
