Prusament PVB Bright Green Transparent 500g (NFC)
Prusament PVB Bright Green Transparent 500g (NFC) is a premium design filament based on polyvinyl butyral (PVB) manufactured by Prusa Research. Thanks to its high translucency, deep green shade, and the possibility of chemical smoothing with isopropyl alcohol (IPA), it is ideal for visually attractive models such as vases, jewelry, decorations, or lampshades. It prints as easily as PLA, offers better mechanical properties (close to CPE/PETG), and excellent adhesion to the print bed. The NFC chip in the spool enables smart tracking and material identification in compatible systems.

Product description
Product Description
Prusament PVB Bright Green Transparent 500g (NFC) is a high-quality PVB filament manufactured in-house by Prusa Research / Prusa Polymers. It is a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) material designed primarily for design and visual applications, where its translucency and the possibility of chemical smoothing in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) vapors stand out.
Thanks to the transparent deep green color Bright Green, stunning "glass-like" models are created after smoothing, ideal for:
- decorative vases and bowls
- lamps and lampshades (light passage, color effects)
- jewelry, accessories, cosplay, and film props
- various design and presentation prototypes
Prusament PVB prints as easily as PLA, while offering better mechanical properties (on par with CPE/PETG) and very good bed adhesion. Due to its low shrinkage, it is also suitable for larger models, where it minimizes deformation and corner peeling.
Key Features
- PVB material (polyvinyl butyral) – design, translucent filament for visual applications
- Bright Green Transparent – deep green transparent shade for impressive translucent prints
- Possibility of chemical IPA smoothing – the surface "melts" in isopropyl alcohol vapors to create a smooth, glossy, almost glass-like finish
- Easy printing, similar to PLA – no enclosed chamber, special nozzle, or exotic bed preparation required
- Good mechanical resistance – properties close to CPE/PETG
- Low warping and good bed adhesion – reliable printing even for larger objects
- Diameter 1,75 mm with ±0,03 mm accuracy – top-tier printing stability, lower risk of nozzle clogging
- Spool with NFC chip (OpenPrintTag) – smart spool enabling material identification and tracking in compatible systems
- Made in EU (Czech Republic) – Prusa's own production line ensures constant quality and color consistency
Recommended Use
This PVB filament is particularly suitable for:
- Decorative models: vases, bowls, statues, logos, trophies
- Lighting: lamps, lampshades, light covers, diffusers
- Jewelry and fashion accessories: rings, pendants, earrings, brooches
- Cosplay and film props: translucent costume parts, special effect components
- Design prototypes: transparent covers, product concepts, demonstration models
For functional mechanical parts stressed by heat or impact, it is better to choose other materials (e.g., PETG, CPE, PC, Nylon). PVB is optimized mainly for appearance, translucency, and easy smoothing.
Print Settings (General manufacturer recommendations)
- Nozzle temperature: approx. 215 °C ± 10 °C
- Bed temperature: approx. 75 °C
- Recommended print sheet: smooth PEI / satin PEI
- Print speed: similar to PLA (approx. 40–60 mm/s, depending on printer and model)
Before printing, it is recommended to:
- thoroughly clean the print bed (IPA, or according to the printer manufacturer's recommendations)
- ensure the correct first layer (height, pressure, calibration)
Chemical IPA Smoothing
One of the main advantages of PVB is its solubility in isopropyl alcohol. This allows for simple chemical smoothing:
- Print the model with a sufficient number of perimeters and infill according to the intended use.
- Make sure the model is dry (vent any moisture after printing).
- Expose the model to IPA vapors (in an enclosed chamber, using a smoothing device, or another safe solution).
- The surface gradually melts and smoothes out – layers optically disappear and the model acquires a glossy, smooth surface and increased translucency.
When working with IPA, always follow safety principles – good ventilation, eye and skin protection, no open flames, etc.
Moisture and Storage
PVB is a hygroscopic material, meaning it easily absorbs moisture from the air. This can lead to:
- bubbling during printing
- deteriorated surface quality
- reduced strength of the printed part
For best results:
- store the spool in a sealed container with desiccant (silica gel bags, etc.)
- if moisture is suspected, dry the filament according to the manufacturer's recommendations (filament dryer, food dehydrator, etc.)

Material Advantages and Limitations
Advantages:
- very easy printing (similar to PLA)
- attractive translucent appearance, glass effect after smoothing
- excellent bed adhesion
- low warping and deformation, suitable for larger models
- good mechanical properties (comparable to CPE/PETG)
Limitations:
- lower temperature resistance – unsuitable for parts exposed to higher temperatures
- hygroscopicity – need for proper storage and potential drying
- worse layer adhesion than PLA – consider another material for highly stressed functional parts
Who is Prusament PVB Bright Green suitable for
This filament will be especially appreciated by:
- beginners and advanced users who handle regular PLA printing and want to enhance the look of their models
- designers, decoration creators, cosplayers, modelers, and hobby users
- owners of FDM/FFF printers with a 1,75 mm nozzle looking for a premium translucent material with top-tier consistency
Due to the ease of printing but the specific nature of chemical smoothing, it is especially suitable for "intermediate" users and above, although even a motivated beginner can quickly learn to work with it.
