The refill variant is wound on a cardboard core, which is designed to be mounted into a disassemblable plastic Prusament spool:
- The empty original Prusament spool is disassembled (separating the plastic sides from the cardboard center).
- The plastic sides are mounted onto the new refill core with filament.
- The spool is closed according to the manufacturer’s instructions – creating a full-featured spool with Prusament filament and an NFC tag.
This system reduces the amount of plastic waste and allows users to repeatedly use the robust plastic parts of the spool.
