Prusament PLA Natural 1kg (NFC)

Prusament PLA Natural is a high-quality PLA filament manufactured directly by Prusa Research. The NFC variant is wound on a new smart spool with the OpenPrintTag standard, which allows easy reading of filament parameters and correct setup on compatible 3D printers.

The natural shade “Natural” is slightly translucent, without added pigments, ideal for concept models, technical prototypes, functional samples, and decorations.

Material properties of PLA

PLA (polylactide) is a rigid, fairly brittle material with low thermal expansion and minimal warping. Thanks to this, it is a great choice for large prints without deformation. On the other hand, PLA has lower heat resistance – its mechanical properties start to significantly worsen at around 55–60 °C, therefore it is not suitable for parts exposed to high temperatures (e.g. in a car in the sun) or for long-term outdoor use.

Summary of PLA properties:

NFC and the new spool with OpenPrintTag

This variant is supplied on a newly designed spool (from October 2025) with an integrated rewritable NFC tag:

  • The NFC tag uses the open OpenPrintTag standard.
  • It works across different brands and ecosystems and is fully offline – data is stored directly in the tag.

Recommended print settings

For optimal results, the manufacturer recommends the following parameters:

  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 215 °C
  • Heated bed temperature: 50–60 °C
  • Recommended print sheets:
    • smooth PEI sheet
    • textured (powder-coated) PEI sheet
    • satin PEI sheet

Before printing, it is necessary to:

  • ensure a clean bed surface (degrease according to the manufacturer’s recommendations),
  • properly set the first-layer height,
  • if needed, use a suitable adhesive or separation agent depending on the surface type.

Tips for post-processing PLA

  • Sanding: wet sanding is ideal. Without water, PLA easily heats up locally during sanding, melts and deforms the surface, and the abrasive clogs quickly.
  • Gluing: PLA can usually be glued with cyanoacrylate (CA) superglue or other universal adhesives. For some PLA blends it is also possible to bond using acetone; however, this depends on additives and pigments.
  • Safety and food contact: even though pure PLA is materially relatively safe, it is not recommended to use prints for long-term direct contact with food or beverages due to microcracks where dirt and bacteria can accumulate.
