Product description
PETG is a very tough material with good heat resistance. PETG has universal use, but it is especially suitable for printing mechanical parts. It can be used both indoors and outdoors. PETG has very low thermal expansion, so it does not warp on the build plate, and therefore printing large models is not a problem. The parts for our printers are printed from PETG!
PETG is one of our favorite materials for 3D printing. It’s almost as easy to print as PLA, but unlike PLA it can offer many better mechanical properties. The letter G in the abbreviation PETG stands for glycol, which is added during the manufacturing process. Glycol modifies the properties of PET to make it less brittle, easier to print, and more transparent when printing semi-transparent variants. PETG has low thermal expansion, so even when printing large models it rarely warps and peels off the heated bed. In addition, PETG is tough and just flexible enough that under stress it often only flexes temporarily, which prevents cracking.
Unlike PLA or ABS, PETG tends to string a bit, i.e., pull thin strands of plastic during travel moves. You can combat this by increasing retraction and lowering temperature, but if you use our preset profiles in PrusaSlicer, we’ve already done this for you and the degree of stringing should be minimal. If you still encounter it, you can get rid of it by quickly passing a heat gun over the finished prints (a few seconds).
If you deal with stringing, oozing, and strong adhesion, you will get very durable prints. Thanks to decent heat resistance, PETG prints are also suitable for outdoor use.
