Product Description

Prusament PETG Magnetite 40% Grey 1kg is a technical filament developed by Prusa Research. It is a PETG filled with fine magnetite powder (~40%), which gives the material paramagnetic properties, significantly higher density, and an attractive matte grey surface.

Unlike standard PETG, this material is heavier, more abrasive, and behaves differently in a magnetic field. It is great for various electronic applications, functional prototypes, and mechanical parts that are meant to be attracted by magnets or need additional weight.

Note: The material is paramagnetic – it cannot be converted into a permanent magnet under domestic conditions.

Limitations and Recommendations

  • Requires a hardened nozzle – magnetite filler is highly abrasive and quickly wears out standard brass nozzles.
  • Lower interlayer adhesion than pure PETG – higher nozzle temperature and careful print settings are recommended.
  • Cannot be magnetized as a permanent magnet – used for interaction with magnets, not as a replacement for them.

Important: Use a hardened (steel) or otherwise hardened nozzle to prevent rapid wear.


Tips for Successful Printing

  1. Print Surface Preparation
    • PETG has high adhesion – a cleaned PEI surface can stick too much.
    • It is recommended to use a release layer (e.g., glue stick or window cleaner on a cold plate) to avoid damaging the PEI.
  2. First Layer Calibration
    • The higher density of the filament means it is advisable to slightly adjust the Z-offset and verify that the first layer is well pressed but not "over-squished".
  3. Temperature Settings
    • For better layer adhesion, keep the nozzle temperature closer to the upper limit of the recommended range.
  4. Post-processing
    • The material can be sanded (dry and wet sanding).
    • For the final appearance, we recommend gradually refining the abrasive grit.
