Product description

Prusament PETG Jet Black 2 kg – professional black PETG from Prusa Research

Prusament PETG Jet Black is a top-tier PETG filament manufactured directly at Prusa Research. The 2 kg variant is ideal for users who print larger parts or in larger volumes and do not want to change spools frequently.

PETG combines high temperature resistance, toughness and minimal shrinkage, making it a great choice for functional parts in both interior and exterior applications. The Jet Black shade is a deep, opaque black suitable for technical and design models.

Key features

  • Premium PETG from Prusa Research – manufactured in-house with strict quality control
  • Large 2 kg spool – less frequent replacement, ideal for series printing and large objects
  • Diameter 1.75 mm with accuracy of ±0.02 mm – very consistent material flow, reliable printing even for fine details
  • High temperature resistance (~68 °C under load) – suitable for parts exposed to heat, for example in a car or near electronics
  • Low shrinkage and minimal warping – suitable for larger models even without an enclosed chamber
  • High toughness and flexibility – strong, durable material, less brittle than PLA
  • Matte black surface Jet Black – elegant appearance, hides minor layer imperfections

Recommended use

Prusament PETG Jet Black is particularly suitable for:

  • functional mechanical parts and prototypes
  • holders, grips, covers and technical components
  • outdoor components and parts exposed to higher temperatures
  • parts for 3D printers (Prusa uses it for its own components)
  • design models in solid black color

Printing settings (recommended)

Parameter Value
Nozzle temperature 250 ± 10 °C
Bed temperature 80 ± 10 °C (70–90 °C)
Recommended surface Textured / satin PEI
Recommended speed up to ~200 mm/s (depending on printer)
Cooling ~50 %

Note: For the 2 kg spool, it is advisable to use a special holder for 2 kg spools, as the standard holder may be too small.

Material properties

  • Material type: PETG (glycol-modified PET)
  • Density: approx. 1.27 g/cm³
  • Heat resistance (HDT): ~68 °C at a load of 0.45–1.8 MPa
  • High strength and toughness
  • Good chemical resistance

Advantages and disadvantages of PETG

Advantages:

  • high temperature resistance
  • easy printing (compared to ABS)
  • low shrinkage and warping
  • excellent strength and tensile resistance
  • relatively flexible material – less brittle than PLA
  • easier sanding due to lower tendency to melt during sanding

Disadvantages:

  • worse bridging quality
  • greater tendency for "stringing" – it is recommended to dry the filament well and fine-tune retraction
  • less sharp details than with high-quality PLA

Tips for successful printing with PETG

  • Before printing, clean the print surface according to the printer manufacturer's recommendations.
  • PETG is hygroscopic – store the spool in a dry place, ideally in a sealable box with silica gel.
  • If excessive stringing occurs, try:
    • lowering the nozzle temperature within the recommended range,
    • increasing retraction,
    • drying the filament before printing.
