Product description

Product description

Prusament PEI 1010 Natural 500g (NFC) is a top-tier industrial filament manufactured by Prusa Polymers / Prusa Research. The base material is polyetherimide (PEI 1010, often referred to as Ultem 1010) – one of the most durable polymers used in FDM/FFF 3D printing.

This material is intended for highly stressed functional parts that must withstand high temperatures, chemicals, mechanical stress, and radiation in the long term. This makes it ideal for the aerospace and automotive industries, industrial automation, jig production, and replacement of metal parts.

The spool is equipped with an NFC tag, which allows for easy loading of production parameters and tracking of specific filament batches in compatible systems.

Warning: PEI 1010 is not suitable for standard desktop printers like Prusa MK, MINI, or XL – it requires a specialized high-temperature printer with a closed and heated chamber (approx. 90 °C and more).

Key features

  • Material PEI 1010 (Ultem 1010) – top high-performance polymer for demanding industrial use
  • Excellent mechanical properties – high strength, stiffness, and resistance to creep deformation
  • Very high thermal resistance – suitable for functional parts operating in high temperatures over the long term
  • Excellent chemical resistance – resists a wide range of oils, fuels, solvents, and industrial media
  • Self-extinguishing material, resistant to flame spread, suitable for applications with fire safety requirements
  • Resistant to gamma radiation, suitable for specific medical and technical applications
  • Possibility of metal part replacement – high strength-to-weight ratio, potential to replace aluminum components
  • Precise diameter tolerance 1,75 mm ± 0,05 mm – consistent flow and dimensional accuracy of prints
  • Production under own brand Prusament – full quality control, detailed batch tracking
  • NFC tag on the spool – simple identification and loading of spool data

Recommended use

Prusament PEI 1010 Natural is particularly suitable for:

  • Aerospace and automotive – brackets, jigs, covers, components in engine compartments and technical nodes
  • Industrial tools and jigs – assembly jigs, welding and measuring jigs, parts for robotic workstations
  • High-temperature functional parts – valve bodies, sensor covers, electronics brackets, parts near heat sources
  • Metal part replacements – lighter structural components with high strength and temperature resistance
  • Specialized technical and medical applications (where appropriate standards and certifications allow)

3D printer requirements

PEI 1010 places significantly higher demands on the 3D printer than common materials (PLA, PETG, ASA, etc.):

  • High-temperature hotend capable of long-term operation around 410 °C
  • Heated bed approx. 150 °C
  • Closed and heated chamber at least around 90 °C to limit internal stress and deformation
  • Bed surface capable of withstanding high temperatures in the long term (e.g., HighTemp powder-coated PEI sheet)

The material is intended especially for printers of the Prusa Pro HT90 class or other industrial high-temperature FDM/FFF systems with similar parameters.

Recommended print settings

Specific values may vary by printer, but as a guide:

  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 410 ± 10 °C
  • Bed temperature: approx. 150 ± 10 °C
  • Chamber temperature: 90 °C and more
  • Recommended print surface: high-temperature PEI sheet / HighTemp surface
  • Print speed: rather lower, with emphasis on quality and layer adhesion

Before printing, we recommend starting from the manufacturer's official print profiles and performing tests on smaller samples.

Material handling and drying

PEI 1010 is highly hygroscopic, meaning it very readily absorbs moisture from the surroundings. This can lead to:

  • bubbles on the print surface,
  • deteriorated layer adhesion,
  • lower strength and rougher surface.

Recommendation:

  • Thoroughly dry the filament before each print according to the manufacturer's recommendations (in a specialized dryer or drying oven designed for filaments).
  • Maintain the spool in a closed, dry filament chamber / dry box during printing.
  • Store in a well-sealed container with desiccant.

Technical specifications

  • Material: Polyetherimide (PEI 1010 / Ultem 1010)
  • Filament diameter: 1,75 mm
  • Diameter tolerance: ± 0,05 mm
  • Fill weight: 500 g
  • Color: Natural (naturally amber/translucent)
  • Product type: high-performance PEI/ULTEM filament for industrial applications
  • Recommended nozzle temperature: approx. 410 °C

Safety and recommendations

  • When printing at very high temperatures, ensure good ventilation or local fume extraction.
  • Follow the recommendations of both the printer and filament manufacturer regarding maximum temperatures and safe operation.
  • The filament is not intended for food use, medical implants, or other applications where special certification is required, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
