Product description
Prusament PC Space Grade Black 850g (NFC)
Prusament PC Space Grade Black is a top-tier polycarbonate filament with carbon additives, developed in collaboration with experts from the aerospace industry and particle physics. It combines electrostatic dissipative (ESD-safe) behavior, extremely low outgassing, and high mechanical and thermal resistance, all while maintaining the possibility of printing on standard desktop 3D printers.
Thanks to the diameter precision of ±0,04 mm, stable composition, and integrated NFC tag according to the OpenPrintTag standard, it represents an ideal choice for professional prototyping, functional parts, enclosures and jigs for electronics, and parts for demanding applications.
Key Features
- Material developed for space applications – tested for use in CubeSat structures and in environments with low outgassing requirements
- ESD-safe filament – safely dissipates electrostatic charge, suitable for parts near sensitive electronics
- Very low outgassing – meets strict limits for use in vacuum and controlled environments
- Superior mechanical properties:
- tensile strength approx. 75 MPa
- tensile modulus approx. 3,7 GPa
- inter-layer adhesion approx. 18 MPa
- High heat resistance – HDT ~137 °C at 0,45 MPa, suitable for parts exposed to higher temperatures
- Excellent dimensional stability – minimal deformation, possibility of printing larger models without an enclosed chamber
- Precise Prusament manufacturing – guaranteed diameter tolerance of ±0,04 mm
- Spool with NFC (OpenPrintTag) – material overview and support in the Original Prusa ecosystem
- Manufactured in-house by Prusa Research from premium granules and under strict quality control
Recommended Use
Prusament PC Space Grade Black is primarily intended for technical and functional parts where a combination of ESD protection, temperature resistance, and low outgassing is needed:
- enclosures, cases, and chassis for electronics (sensors, control units, measuring instruments)
- jigs, holders, and clamping fixtures for electronics production and testing
- components for aerospace / CubeSat projects and research applications
- functional prototypes that must withstand mechanical stress and elevated temperatures
- parts for environments with low outgassing requirements (vacuums, chambers, etc.)
Print Settings (reference values)
Parameters for printing on Original Prusa 3D printers (values may require minor fine-tuning based on the specific printer and conditions):
- Nozzle temperature: approx. 290 ± 10 °C
- Bed temperature: approx. 120 ± 10 °C
- Recommended surface: textured or satin spring steel sheet, or PP sheet
- Enclosure: not required, material exhibits low warping
- Filament drying: recommended approx. 6 hours at ~60 °C and keep dry during printing
- Nozzle: hardened nozzle recommended due to carbon additives
Before printing, it is advisable to check the cleanliness and preparation of the print surface and use the recommended print profile (available in PrusaSlicer for supported printers).
Printer and Profile Support
The filament is officially supported in profiles for selected Original Prusa printers (e.g., Prusa Core One, Original Prusa MK4S, Original Prusa XL, Prusa Pro HT90). However, it can also be used on compatible FDM printers from other manufacturers that reach the necessary temperatures and are equipped with a suitable nozzle.
Tips for Successful Printing
- Use an enclosed, but not excessively heated space if printing very large parts – this reduces the risk of deformation.
- Ensure the filament is dry – PC is hygroscopic; moist filament can lead to bubbles, worse surface finish, and reduced mechanical properties.
- Appropriate model design – for the best inter-layer adhesion, design parts so that the main load does not go against the direction of the layers.
- Consider a larger nozzle diameter (0,4–0,6 mm) for robust technical parts that utilize the material's strength.
Summary
Prusament PC Space Grade Black 850g (NFC) is a professional ESD-safe polycarbonate filament with properties suitable even for space applications. It brings very low outgassing, high thermal and mechanical resistance, precise diameter of ±0,04 mm, and a modern NFC spool for better material management – yet it is printable on standard desktop 3D printers. An ideal choice for everyone who needs maximum reliability and material performance for demanding technical projects.
