Product description
Product description
Prusament PC Blend Urban Grey 900g (NFC) is a top-class technical filament developed and manufactured directly by Prusa Research in Prague. It is a blended polycarbonate (PC Blend) that combines the high strength and toughness of polycarbonate with better printability compared to standard PC materials.
The shade Urban Grey is a modern, neutral gray that looks professional and is ideal for functional prototypes and end-use parts where a technical look is required without flashy colors.
Thanks to its high temperature resistance up to 113 °C, very good mechanical strength, and low creep effect (cold flow), this material is suitable not only for prototypes, but also for real-world functional parts in production lines, jigs, housings, covers, holders, or parts subjected to both thermal and mechanical stress.
The new generation of Prusament spools is equipped with a fully rewritable NFC tag according to the OpenPrintTag standard. A printer or mobile app can read the material data from the tag directly on the spool – without the need for a cloud or a locked ecosystem.
Main advantages and properties
- Technical polycarbonate filament (PC Blend) – high strength, toughness, and wear resistance
- Heat resistance up to 113 °C (HDT 0.45 MPa) – suitable for parts in warmer environments and near motors, fans, electronics
- Excellent dimensional stability compared to standard PC filaments – reduced deformation and warping
- Printed parts do not deform under long-term load – suitable for assembly and clamping jigs
- Very low moisture absorption – fewer issues with bubbles and material degradation
- Good electrical insulating properties – suitable for holders and covers for electronics
- Styrene-free – less toxic than ASA, more pleasant to print with in a workshop
- Diameter 1,75 mm with a tolerance of ±0,03 mm – precise quality control by Prusa Polymers
- New spool with OpenPrintTag NFC – quick filament data loading, open standard, no cloud and no vendor lock-in
- Easy-to-disassemble spool – simple refilling, better filament drying, and compatibility with multi-material systems
Recommended use
Prusament PC Blend Urban Grey is intended primarily for advanced users and professionals who need a material for strong and durable functional parts:
- Prototypes with high mechanical demands
- Machine components, bearing housings, levers, hinges, covers, and holders
- Jigs and clamping/jig parts for production and assembly
- Covers for electronics, distribution boxes, spacers, and insulators
- Functional parts exposed to elevated temperatures (car interiors, areas around motors, fans, lights)
It is not ideal for beginners – it requires experience with printer tuning, higher printing temperatures, and proper print surface preparation.
Print settings (manufacturer’s recommendations)
- Nozzle temperature: 275 ± 10 °C
- Bed temperature: 110 ± 10 °C
- Recommended print sheet: powder-coated satin (optionally textured/smooth with a layer of glue stick as a separation layer)
- Part cooling (fan): ~20 % (0–30 % depending on model geometry)
- Print speed: typically 40–80 mm/s (the official datasheet allows up to ~200 mm/s, depending on printer capabilities)
When printing large parts, it is recommended to:
- Use an enclosed chamber (enclosure) or at least a tall skirt/brim around the model
- Apply glue (such as KORES) as a separation layer on smooth and textured PEI sheets
- Use a brim of at least 4 mm for parts larger than 5 cm
Tips for successful printing
- The material is easier to print than standard PC, but still mainly suitable for advanced users
- Large models tend to warp and lift at the corners – an enclosure and proper bed preparation are crucial
- For regular PC Blend printing, we recommend always using a glue layer as a separator to avoid damaging the PEI surface
- The filament has low moisture absorption, but for long-term storage, drying helps (e.g. 4–6 hours around 80 °C according to the manufacturer’s recommendations)
