Prusament ASA Prusa Orange 800 g (NFC) is a top-class technical filament developed and manufactured in‑house by Prusa Research. ASA can be considered the true successor to ABS – it is UV stable, shrinks less during printing, and the odor during printing is significantly weaker. The Prusa Orange color is the iconic company color used on Original Prusa 3D printers.

The new generation of Prusament spools is equipped with a fully rewritable NFC tag according to the OpenPrintTag standard. This allows the printer or application to automatically recognize the material type, color, and other parameters without the need for a cloud connection. In addition, there is a QR code on the spool linking to detailed information and quality control of the specific batch.

Recommended print settings

A dedicated profile is available for Original Prusa printers directly in PrusaSlicer.

Temperatures

• Nozzle temperature: approx. 260 ± 5 °C
• Bed temperature: approx. 110 ± 5 °C

Print surface

• The most recommended is a satin / textured PEI steel sheet
• You can also use a smooth PEI sheet or glass with a suitable adhesive aid

Cooling

• Print fan approx. 30 % (lower airflow reduces warping)

Printing tips

• Best printed in an enclosed print chamber / box – significantly reduces the risk of warping
• Ensure a stable temperature without drafts
• For large parts it is advisable to use a brim or high skirt

Properties of ASA material

• Temperature resistance: up to 93 °C without noticeable deformation
• UV stability: the material does not yellow and degrade over time like common ABS
• Mechanical properties: high toughness, impact and wear resistance
• Post-processing:
  • smoothing in acetone vapors
  • dry and wet sanding
  • possibility of bonding with acetone (dissolves the surface)

Advantages and disadvantages compared to other materials

Advantages compared to ABS:

• Better UV stability – more suitable for sun and outdoor use
• Slightly lower shrinkage and deformation
• Less intense odor during printing

Advantages compared to PLA / PETG:

• Significantly higher temperature resistance
• Better outdoor resistance (sun, heat)

Disadvantages / limitations:

• Requires higher printing temperatures and a heated bed
• For larger models there is a higher risk of warping – an enclosed printer is advisable
• During printing, styrene fumes are generated – good ventilation is required

Safety and storage

• Print in a well‑ventilated area, but without direct drafts into the print area
• The material is slightly hygroscopic – to achieve the best print quality, store the spool
  • in a sealed package with silica gel
  • or in a drybox and, if necessary, dry it before printing according to the manufacturer’s recommendations
