Product description
Product Description
Prusament ASA Prusa Orange 800 g (NFC) is a top-tier technical filament developed and produced in-house by Prusa Research. ASA can be considered the true successor to ABS – it is UV stable, shrinks less during printing, and the odor during printing is significantly weaker. The Prusa Orange color is the iconic company color used on Original Prusa 3D printers.
The new generation of Prusament spools is equipped with a fully rewritable NFC tag according to the OpenPrintTag standard. This allows the printer or application to automatically recognize the material type, color, and other parameters without needing a cloud connection. Additionally, the spool features a QR code linking to detailed information and quality control of the specific batch.
Key Features
- ASA material (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) – technical plastic suitable for functional parts
- Color: Prusa Orange (rich company orange shade)
- Spool weight: 800 g of pure filament
- Filament diameter: 1,75 mm
- Integrated NFC tag (OpenPrintTag) – stores key material data, works offline
- UV stable – suitable for long-term outdoor use
- High temperature resistance up to 93 °C
- Very good mechanical resistance and toughness
- Excellent interlayer adhesion
- Possibility of acetone smoothing (acetone vapors) for a smooth surface
- Easy sanding and other post-processing
- Manufactured with strict diameter tolerance control of ±0,04 mm
- Each spool has its own QR code with an online quality report
Applications
Parts for outdoor use
- Covers, brackets, boxes, cases
- Elements for gardens, pools, bicycles, or motorcycles
- Parts exposed to sunlight and weather conditions
Functional and technical parts
- Mechanical holders, clamps, fixtures
- Thermally stressed components (e.g., near motors, electronics)
- Spare parts for home and workshop
Automotive and industry
- Interior and some exterior elements
- Sensor covers, couplings, clips, brackets
Thanks to the combination of high temperature and UV resistance, toughness, and dimensional stability, Prusament ASA is the ideal choice wherever PLA is insufficient and PETG fails in temperature resistance.
Recommended Print Settings
A specific profile is available for Original Prusa printers directly in PrusaSlicer.
Temperatures
- Nozzle temperature: approx. 260 ± 5 °C
- Heatbed temperature: approx. 110 ± 5 °C
Print Surface
- Recommended primarily: satin / textured PEI steel sheet
- Smooth PEI or glass with a suitable adhesive agent can also be used
Cooling
- Print fan approx. 30 % (lower airflow limits deformation)
Printing Recommendations
- Recommended to print in a closed print chamber / box – significantly reduces the risk of warping
- Ensure a stable temperature without drafts
- For large parts, it is advisable to use a brim or a high skirt
ASA Material Properties
- Temperature resistance: up to 93 °C without noticeable deformation
- UV stability: the material does not yellow or degrade over time like common ABS
- Mechanical properties: high toughness, resistance to impact and wear
- Post-processing:
- smoothing in acetone vapors
- dry and wet sanding
- possibility of acetone gluing (dissolves the surface)
Advantages and Disadvantages Compared to Other Materials
Advantages over ABS:
- Better UV stability – more suitable for sun and outdoors
- Slightly lower shrinkage and deformation
- Less noticeable odor during printing
Advantages over PLA / PETG:
- Significantly higher temperature resistance
- Better outdoor durability (sun, heat)
Disadvantages / limitations:
- Requires higher printing temperatures and a heated bed
- Higher warping risk for larger models – an enclosed printer is suitable
- Printing produces vapors with styrene – good ventilation needed
Safety and Storage
- Print in a well-ventilated area, but without direct drafts onto the printing area
- The material is slightly hygroscopic – for best print quality, store the spool
- in a sealed container with silica gel
- or in a drybox and dry before printing if recommended by the manufacturer
