Prusament ASA Prusa Galaxy Black 800g (NFC)

Prusament ASA Prusa Galaxy Black 800g (NFC) is a premium ASA filament from Prusa Research with the iconic shimmering "Galaxy" effect in black. Thanks to its high UV and temperature resistance, it is ideal for outdoor functional parts, automotive components, electronics covers, and technical prints. The new spool with NFC (OpenPrintTag) allows for storing and reading material parameters directly from the winding and simplifies work with multi-color/multi-material printing.

Product description

Product Description

Prusament ASA Prusa Galaxy Black 800g (NFC) is a top-tier technical filament developed and manufactured in-house by Prusa Research / Prusa Polymers. The Galaxy Black variant combines a deep black color with fine shimmering pigments that elegantly mask layers and small surface imperfections.

ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylate) is considered a modern replacement for ABS – it offers high UV stability, excellent temperature resistance up to ~93 °C and very good mechanical strength, while having lower shrinkage and a weaker odor than ABS. This makes it a great choice for functional outdoor parts, automotive, garden equipment, brackets, covers, or mechanically stressed components.

The newer packaging with a weight of 800 g is wound on a redesigned reusable spool with an NFC tag (OpenPrintTag). The NFC tag stores key information about the material and can be read by compatible devices or applications, significantly facilitating filament management.

Key Features

  • Premium ASA filament Prusament – in-house production, strict quality control
  • Galaxy Black color – black with a shimmering effect for an attractive appearance and better layer masking
  • High UV stability – suitable for long-term outdoor use
  • Temperature resistance up to approx. 93 °C without significant deformation
  • Excellent mechanical strength and toughness
  • Lower shrinkage than ABS – better dimensional stability of parts
  • Possibility of acetone vapor smoothing and good sandability for a perfect surface
  • Good dimensional accuracy – diameter 1,75 mm with a tolerance of ±0,04 mm
  • New spool with NFC (OpenPrintTag) – stored material data, easy identification and reuse
  • Designed for FDM/FFF printers – optimized for Original Prusa, fully usable on other compatible machines

Recommended Use

  • Functional parts exposed to sun and weather (brackets, mounting elements, garden parts)
  • Automotive parts and brackets in the interior and some exterior parts
  • Electronics covers, switchboards, technical boxes
  • Instrument panels, handles, grips, jigs, manufacturing fixtures
  • Design models where the Galaxy shimmering effect in black stands out

Printing Settings (Guideline)

Specific values may vary depending on the printer, nozzle, and conditions; typical settings according to Prusa Research recommendations for Prusament ASA are below:

  • Nozzle temperature: 260 ± 5 °C
  • Bed temperature: 110 ± 5 °C
  • Recommended print surface: satin or lightly textured PEI sheet
  • Print speed: up to approx. 200 mm/s (depending on geometry and settings)
  • Cooling: low to medium (approx. 0–50 %, typically ~30 %)

For large parts and parts with a large first layer area, a closed print chamber is strongly recommended, along with draft restriction and careful cleaning of the print surface (IPA, or glue to increase adhesion according to the manufacturer's recommendation).

Safety and Material Properties

  • ASA contains styrene – potentially harmful vapors are generated during printing
  • A faint plastic odor is released during printing, less than with classic ABS
  • Good room ventilation or air filtration is necessary
  • The material is slightly hygroscopic – it is recommended to store it in a dry place and possibly dry it (e.g., 70–80 °C for several hours according to the manufacturer's recommendation) for maximum print quality

Package Contents

  • 1× spool of Prusament ASA Prusa Galaxy Black 800g (NFC) in vacuum packaging

Advantages over PLA and PETG

  • Higher temperature resistance – parts do not deform as easily in hot environments (e.g., in a car)
  • Better UV stability – does not degrade or become brittle as quickly in the sun as regular PLA or PETG
  • Better mechanical and chemical resistance for more demanding industrial and outdoor applications

If you are looking for a filament for reliable outdoor technical parts while wanting the iconic look of the Galaxy series from Prusa, Prusament ASA Prusa Galaxy Black is the ideal choice.

Key Features:

  • Premium Prusament ASA filament with high dimensional accuracy
