Product description

Product Description

Prusament ASA Lipstick Red 800g (NFC) is a premium technical ASA-based filament from Prusa Research, manufactured "in‑house" with very strict quality control. It excels in high thermal resistance (no deformation up to ~93 °C), UV stability, and excellent dimensional stability during printing. The Lipstick Red shade is a rich, bold red color with a pleasant matte surface, suitable for both design and functional parts.

This new variant delivers ASA filament on a modern thinner spool with an integrated NFC tag in the open OpenPrintTag standard. The tag contains key data about the material and can be read, for example, by the Prusa mobile app. Thanks to the slimmer spool dimensions, the filament is better compatible with multi-material and multi-color systems and is safely dryable even at higher temperatures.

Main advantages of ASA material

  • High thermal resistance – prints show no deformation up to ~93 °C
  • UV stability and weather resistance – ideal for long-term outdoor use
  • Good mechanical strength and toughness – suitable for functional and stressed parts
  • Possibility of acetone smoothing – smooth, aesthetic surface
  • Easy sanding and other post‑processing
  • Very good layer adhesion
  • Solubility in acetone – possibility of gluing ASA parts
  • Matte surface – technical, non-reflective appearance of prints

Spool features with NFC (OpenPrintTag)

  • Integrated fully rewritable NFC tag according to the OpenPrintTag standard
  • Works offline – information is directly on the tag, no cloud required
  • Easily readable via the Prusa mobile app and compatible systems
  • New locking mechanism of the spool – fast disassembly, easy rewinding or recycling
  • Safe drying of the spool even at higher temperatures
  • Slimmer shape for better compatibility with multi-material and AMS/MMU systems

Typical Use

Prusament ASA is particularly suitable for functional, technical, and outdoor parts where thermal and UV resistance is important:

  • Electronics covers, junction and installation boxes
  • Holders, mounts, handles, clips, and technical components
  • Parts for the automotive industry (sensor holders, brackets, covers)
  • Garden and outdoor elements – hose holders, lights, cameras, decorations
  • Functional prototypes and small series of stressed parts

Printing Recommendations

To achieve high-quality prints, it is recommended:

  • Nozzle: 260 ± 5 °C
  • Bed: 110 ± 5 °C
  • Recommended surface: satin spring steel sheet (Prusa)
  • Fan: rather lower intensity; usually 0–30 % for an enclosed chamber
  • Print speed: according to the Prusament ASA profile recommendations, usually up to ~200 mm/s for suitable printers

Printing Conditions and Safety

  • For larger models, it is advisable to print in an enclosed print chamber to reduce the risk of warping (corner lifting).
  • The material releases fumes with styrene during printing – we recommend printing in a well-ventilated room or using air filtration. At the same time, avoid direct drafts on the print.
  • ASA is slightly hygroscopic – for long-term storage, it is advisable to keep the spool dry and, in case of problems, dry the filament (filament dryer, fruit dryer, etc.).

Material and Technical Parameters

The values listed below are based on official Prusament ASA material sheets and specialized distributors. They may vary slightly depending on color and testing conditions.

Basic Parameters

Parameter Value
Material ASA (acrylonitrile‑styrene‑acrylate)
Color Lipstick Red (deep red)
Filament diameter 1,75 mm
Diameter tolerance ±0,04 mm
Spool weight 800 g
Density approx. 1,07 g/cm³
Filament length (approx.) ~310 m per 800 g spool

Printing Conditions

Parameter Recommended value
Nozzle temperature 260 ± 5 °C
Bed temperature 110 ± 5 °C
Recommended surface satin spring steel sheet
Fan low / 0–30 %
Recommended print speed up to ~200 mm/s (depending on printer and profile)

Mechanical and other properties (indicative)

Property Value (indicative)
Temperature resistance (HDT) up to approx. 93 °C without visible deformation
Charpy impact strength ~25 kJ/m²
Surface hardness ~78 Shore D
UV resistance high
Suitability for outdoor use yes, long-term

Advantages and Disadvantages of Prusament ASA

Advantages:

  • Great for outdoor and thermally stressed parts
  • Excellent dimensional stability and print accuracy
  • Reduced shrinkage compared to classic ABS
  • Possibility of acetone smoothing and gluing
  • Matte, professional surface and rich red color
  • Integrated NFC/OpenPrintTag for easy spool identification

Disadvantages:

  • Requires higher temperatures for both nozzle and bed
  • Warping can occur with larger models – a cover/enclosure is suitable
  • Odor and potentially harmful fumes (styrene) are produced during printing
  • More demanding on settings and printing conditions compared to PLA
