Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ Gray 1kg
Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ Gray is a highly durable PLA filament developed for functional and mechanically stressed parts. It combines strength close to ABS with the ease of printing of classic PLA, has significantly better impact toughness and interlayer adhesion than standard PLA, and is fully compatible with Bambu Lab printers and AMS systems. Ideal for RC models, functional prototypes, tools, and everyday applications where standard PLA is not enough.

Product description
Product description
Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ Gray 1kg is a premium next-generation PLA filament designed for applications where standard PLA is not enough. The material is optimized to withstand impacts, bending, and repeated stress, while maintaining the simplicity and reliability of printing classic PLA.
PLA Tough+ offers toughness comparable to ABS, but without its typical disadvantages – no closed chamber is required, no significant odor is produced, and the risk of warping is minimal. Thanks to up to 2× better interlayer adhesion compared to standard PLA, it is ideal for functional parts, mechanical components, RC models, and tools that must endure long-term real-world use.
Main advantages
- Durability like ABS, prints like PLA – high impact toughness and strength while maintaining simple settings.
- Significantly better layer adhesion – much lower risk of delamination for parts stressed in the Z-axis.
- Stable dimensions and good surface – low internal stress, limited warping, and clean print detail.
- Full compatibility with Bambu Lab – ready-made profiles for Bambu Lab printers and AMS/AMS 2 Pro/AMS Lite systems.
- Universal Gray color – suitable for technical models, miniatures, functional prototypes, and design parts.
Recommended use
- Functional mechanical parts and components
- RC cars, planes, drones and other hobby projects
- Tools, fixtures, holders, covers, and latches
- Prototypes that must withstand drops and impacts
- Workshop and home use where higher durability than standard PLA is needed
Printing settings (approximate)
These values are based on the material's technical data sheet and manufacturer recommendations. We always recommend using the official profile in Bambu Studio/OrcaSlicer and potentially fine-tuning it according to the specific printer and part geometry.
- Nozzle temperature: 220–250 °C (typically around 245 °C)
- Bed temperature: 35–65 °C (for larger parts recommended ~55 °C)
- Printing speed: up to 300 mm/s (depending on Bambu Lab printer capabilities)
- Fan: ON
- Compatible nozzles: 0.2 / 0.4 / 0.6 / 0.8 mm
- Recommended surface: textured PEI, smooth PEI, or Cool Plate with separation glue
For best results with larger or highly stressed parts, it is advisable to print at a lower speed and with a higher nozzle temperature at the upper end of the recommended range, which further improves layer cohesion.
Material properties
Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ is a specially modified PLA polymer with the following key parameters (values are approximate, from the material technical data sheet):
- Material: PLA (polylactic acid) – modified tough variant
- Density: approx. 1.21 g/cm³
- Glass transition temperature (Tg): approximately 61 °C
- Vicat softening temperature: around 62 °C
- Flexural modulus (XY): ~2140 MPa
- Flexural strength (XY): ~65 MPa
- Impact toughness (XY): approx. 80.6 kJ/m² (significantly more than standard PLA)
- Very good interlayer adhesion in the Z-axis compared to standard PLA
Compatibility
- Printers: all Bambu Lab FDM printers (e.g., X1, P1, A1 series) and most common FDM printers with 1.75 mm filament
- AMS systems: AMS, AMS 2 Pro, AMS HT, AMS Lite
Storage
To maintain top printing properties, we recommend:
- Keep the filament dry (RH < 20 %) and in a closed bag/box with silica gel.
- If exposed to moisture for a long time, dry it before printing (e.g., 55 °C for several hours).
Summary
Bambu Lab PLA Tough+ Gray is the ideal choice for users looking for a reliable, easy-to-print, yet mechanically resistant filament. It is great for functional parts and demanding projects where classic PLA is too brittle, but you don't want to deal with the printing difficulty of materials like ABS or ASA.
Key features:
- Tough PLA filament with durability close to ABS, but with the ease of printing of PLA
- Significantly better interlayer adhesion compared to standard PLA – lower risk of delamination
- High impact toughness – resistance to drops, impacts, and repeated bending
- Ideal for RC models, functional parts, tools, and mechanically stressed components
- Stable dimensions and low warping, suitable even for larger prints
- Full compatibility with Bambu Lab printers and AMS systems
