Bambu Lab PLA Aero Gray 1kg

Bambu Lab PLA Aero Gray is a lightweight (foaming) PLA filament developed specifically for applications where the lowest possible weight while maintaining strength and stiffness is required. The material foams at higher temperatures during printing, creating internal micro-cavities and significantly reducing the final density of the print.

Like other Bambu Lab materials, PLA Aero is precisely calibrated for Bambu printers (AMS, RFID tag), but you can use it without problems on any other FDM 3D printer with a 0.4 mm nozzle or larger.

  • Extremely low density and weight of the print With the correct temperature and flow settings, it is possible to achieve only about 50–80 % density of regular PLA. You use less material for the same size model, and the resulting part is significantly lighter.
  • Ideal for RC models, drones, and gliders Lower weight means longer flight time, better maneuverability, and less load on the structure. PLA Aero is perfect for wings, fuselages, engine nacelles, aerodynamic covers, or structural elements where the weight/strength ratio is a priority.

    • higher nozzle temperature → stronger foaming → lower density and weight,
    • lower flow rate → less material → lighter print.
  • Matte, easy-to-paint surface PLA Aero provides a finely matte surface that can be easily lacquered or painted. Compared to standard PLA Basic, it often achieves better results when painting due to the surface microstructure.
  • Comfortable PLA printing Although it is a special lightweight material, the base is classic PLA, so it offers minimal warping, good layer adhesion, and easy processing.

  • Aero and automotive models Body prototypes, spoilers, diffusers, aerodynamic parts that can be further surface-treated and painted.

  • Modeling and cosplay Large parts that you need to keep as light as possible (armor, helmets, props).

Warning: PLA Aero has higher requirements for material drying and print parameter settings than regular PLA. Before first use, we recommend thoroughly drying the filament and following the manufacturer's recommended profiles.


Recommended print settings (indicative)

  • Filament diameter: 1.75 mm
  • Nozzle temperature: approx. 210–260 °C (higher temperature = higher foaming, lower density)
  • Bed temperature: approx. 35–45 °C
  • Print speed: typically 60–80 mm/s (can be adjusted according to geometry)
  • Fan: medium to high, depending on model details
  • Recommendation: for maximum weight reduction, use higher temperatures (230–250 °C) and reduced flow according to the manufacturer's tables.

Specific recommended profiles can be found in the Bambu Studio software for Bambu Lab printers, or parameters can be transferred to other slicers.

Storage and handling

  • Store in a dry place, ideally in a resealable bag or box with silica gel.
  • We recommend drying the material before important prints (e.g., 55–60 °C for several hours).
  • Avoid long-term exposure to temperatures above approx. 50–60 °C (car in the sun, etc.), as it is a PLA material.
